Role

University College Dublin  in the form of Associate Professor Barry McMahon, will provide direction and expertise in relation predation management through the steering grouping. In addition, UCD will aid in the delivery of the research WP package. Barry, https://people.ucd.ie/barry.mcmahon/about, is based in the UCD school of Agriculture and Food Science and he has over twenty years of research experience within agricultural ecosystems has supervised research students for over 15 years. Barry’s current research activities relate to biodiversity in farmland and one project in particular relates to conservation of curlew using genomic techniques. 

Barry’s group will provide specific direction into understanding predation waders and implementing an adaptive management approach with multiple stakeholders through post-doctoral researcher and a PhD student. If there is scope to include research MSc students research in the project, UCD has 10-15 MSc in Wildlife Conservation and Management students each year who could carry out specific studies which could benefit the wider project.
